Trench coats might usually put us in the mind of that fantasy girl dressed in khaki who in enters the room from the rainy outdoors with black leather knee high boots and matching fedora hat. Ready to seduce her man who anticipates little or nothing underneath, she drops her coat to the floor.
Well in a more realistic sense, trenches have become a lot more versatile with purposes other than flashing and protecting us from the rain and cold. As a matter of fact, trench coats now make statements. With all of the many styles, patterns, fabrics and array of colors, there's a trench coat to fit any personality.

I don't think our man would mind us keeping it on for a change. Men, as well as women, are really "Digging Trenches". Don't get me wrong, khaki is not a thing of the past- as Michelle Obama has been seen wearing it well- but there is now so much more to choose from. Trench coats can now be seen adorned with ruffles, plaid patterns, wool, satin and even lace. Depending on the style and length, you can wear a trench coat alone as a dress for that sophisticated look while showing off your legs. Trench coats can also be worn with a pair of leggings to add a little bit of attitude, or dress it down a notch with a pair of denim jeans. Leave it open and wear it as a jacket or tie it up in front or back as if the buckle isn't even there. I personally like the look of a trench coat buttoned down half way with a pair of slacks, to get that conservative look with just a bit of sex appeal.
Baby Phat has a wide selection to choose from, reasonably priced, starting at $79.99 and up. Victoria Secret's Via gold button down back is generously priced at $148.00. However, if you feel the need to splurge, you might like the Rebecca Taylor lace trench made for rain with real lace coated in plastic for $445.00. I was able to find a green polyester trench with a wide bottom ruffle by Sele at Macys marked down to $14.99 from $79.99. WHAT A STEAL!
Whatever your style or budget, there is a trench out there for you. The fun part about trench coats is they can be worn by one of any size or shape.
So ladies "Get in the Trenches", I can almost guarantee you will "dig it".
