Julia Stiles is waiting for the show to begin. America's pristine sweetheart was at the Milly show in Bryant Park February 18, part of New York City's Fashion Week.

The wall of photographers is stacked one on top of the other at the end of the runway. Every buyer is looking at who was sitting where, and just as the show is about to start in walks Mary J. Blige with her entourage.

The models walk with perfect poise. Candy pinks and spice hues litter the runway. There are also a fair amount of ruffle and cascade pieces. The overall look is warm and feminine.

The line "draws inspiration from Manhattan's Gallery Girls," according to a statement issued by Milly. The brains behind the Milly brand, designer Michelle Smith, found "Manhattan's Gallery Girls' are as inspiring as the art they showcase. Glamorous gatekeepers, they serve as purveyors of culture - exuding a unique style that's as classic as it is clever. This season, my collection continues to evolve, offering my uptown muse a dose of downtown edge. "

As each model passes, this uptown girl with downtown style is brought more and more to life. Buyers lift their digital camera or camcorders to capture the image, and their necks immediately snap to see the next model emerging onto the runway.

Charcoals and chocolate browns also make an appearance. Along with coats sporting three quarter sleeves made of textured tweed dressed with arm warmers. While a coat with three quarter sleeves may seem impractical, they polished off the looks for the runway. Muted gold metallics also took the form of coats, skirts, and dresses. As with any show, if they do not get enough orders for an item they simply do not make it - no matter how fabulous it is.

For those familiar with Milly and her stand-apart-from-the-crowd prints. There is a new one on the way featuring a peacock feather on silk twill in petrol blue. For those a bit shyer, there is also a paisley print.

The show ends in a finale of little black dresses. Hopefully, most of them will make it to the rack.

There are so many outfits to snag among them a pink skirt and gray pullover. Unfortunately, these clothes will not be out in retail stores until fall.

Great article about the Milly show and the designers clothes. I was just shopping in Century 21 and saw a bunch of their items in stock. They really are so feminine.
