Ginseng: the Memory Herb?

ginsengmemory.jpg

My memory isn't what it used to be. I used to be able to remember the most trivial details from years passed. My mind used to be sharper, more accurate and more creatively adept. Perhaps its the stress, perhaps the lack of a good night's sleep, or it could be the increasing amount of booze (ah, Patron!)- whatever the reason, it isn't where it should be.

So I did some research and found out that Asian Ginseng may help improve memory and reduce the effects of stress on the brain. Although I'm not the type of person who believes everything he reads, I am the type who believes in trying things at least once to see if there is any truth behind it.

Off to the tea shop I went, in search of anything with Ginseng in it. I found quite a few varietals but settled on a Green-White Tea fusion with Lemon and Honey- very tasty.

Over the course of one week, I drank a cup each morning with breakfast. For the first few days, I wasn't convinced it was working, but by mid-week I began to feel the effects. Firstly, I became much more active and aware at work. My mood changed from "blah" to "let's get this stuff done!". Also, on a creative level, where I had been struggling for inspiration to write new material, suddenly my mind was awake and cracking with new ideas. My stress level, which would typically peak at 7pm while driving on i80, stuck in never-ending traffic-became virtually non-existent. I was a calmer person.

Lastly, I became more task focused. My cell phone is chock-full of "To Do" lists for each day of the week and recently, if I didn't check my phone, I'd probably forget some, if not most, of the tasks. However, while I was drinking the ginseng, I didn't need to glance at the "To Do" list, instead, I woke up knowing exactly what needed to be done and how to accomplish it.

If you have found yourself unfocused and stressed out, I strongly suggest giving Ginseng (preferably Asian), a try. It worked for me, so it could work for you.

If you try it, let us all know how it worked (or didn't work) for you

Ginseng in Skin Care
Okay, I have to admit I haven\'t used it in tea. I\'m so sensitive to caffeine, and I hear that Ginseng can have a similar stimulating effect. I am encouraged by what you have reported however. I will say, though, that we use Ginseng in a couple of our organic skin care products and customers love it. It is stimulating, regenerative, toning and brightening on the skin. We have a skin care herbarium with info on Ginseng, if you are interested:Ginseng
